Local Business Feature: Distrito Coffee

If you’re ever in the San Pedro area and craving a little caffeine, you’ve got to check out Distrito Coffee; it’s my go-to coffee spot in the area! I alternate between the cappucino, americano, or iced dirty chai, if I'm feeling spicy. Whatever drink choice I make, I can always count on their top-notch ingredients to make my coffee just perfect.

Some of the magic behind Distrito Coffee I learned straight from the owners themselves. They were inspired by the lively streets of Latin America, places like Cartagena, Monterrey, Guatemala City, Mexico City, Bogotá, Comayagua, and Lima. Growing up in Colombia, they were surrounded by coffee culture. Coffee was more than just a drink; it was a vital part of life, a way to communicate, connect, and celebrate.

In Colombia, you’d see street vendors everywhere with their little carts, serving up quick, quality coffee. “Tinto” (brewed coffee) and “Perico” (coffee with milk) were the staples, ready in less than two minutes. This street coffee culture is what shaped Distrito Coffee’s concept: small spaces, coffee for everyone, a curated menu, and a focus on to-go service. It makes me want to take a trip to Colombia ASAP! 

Their creative process and aesthetics of the space are influenced by Brutalism—a style marked by minimalist, raw concrete designs that emphasize functionality over decoration. This approach keeps costs low, allowing them to work closely with farmers, access high-quality beans, and ensure every cup is made with care. The coffee is definitely the star of the show in this space.
